In
March 1960, Panditji left Calcutta to join
the newly-established Department of Music
as the first teacher of instrumental music
at the University of Delhi, in search of
his mission to promote the purest traditional
form of sitar playing of his revered Guru
Sangeet Acharya Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan,
the most traditional player of this century.
Debuji has since upheld his guru’s style,
propagating its special techniques and quality
not only in India, but all over the world
. Panditji has been performing on the Sitar
for more than 57 years and has trained more
than 1000 students by now. He still performs
and also plays duet along with his talented
son PRATEEK, not only in India but all over
the World. His Guruji passed away in the
1989 and Debuji is at present concentrating
to complete a project in memory of his revered
Guruji and has established a Centre in memory
of his Guruji by the name of "UMAK
CENTRE FOR CULTURE", where UMAK stands
for Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan. The Centre has
got a land in the Institutional Area in
South Delhi. It is an ambitious project
and the Centre proposes to also impart free
training to highly talented students of
music along with free accomodation. Any
help for the cause will be highly appreciated
and will help the institution to fulfill
this ambitious project.
